Sales Motivation I Can’t Live Without

Whenever I think about sales motivation, I always remember this chance meeting:

Years ago at a networking event, a stranger handed me his business card. When I glanced down at it, I was surprised to see that it didn't have the standard name, company and contact info.

Instead the card said:

Never-Believe

When I commented that his card wasn't at all what I was expecting, he just smiled and said the message was more important. We chatted briefly and then he disappeared into the crowd. I never saw him again.

How It's Impacted My Life

The man I met wasn't actually Robert H. Schuller. He was just sharing the message of this popular televangelist. But this business card had a huge impact on my life.

When I got back to the office, I put it up on the wall in front of my phone. Every day as I stared at it, the message wormed its way into my thinking: Never believe in never!

Instead of getting down when I faced tough situations, I accepted the reality of them. Where I was at that moment in time was simply a new starting point.

I may have been behind, but that didn't mean I had to stay there. The roadblocks were simply challenges, not obstacles that couldn't be overcome.

My Challenge to You

The “never believe in never” mindset was my impetus for learning something new – information or skills – that were vital to my future success.

I still have this saying tacked up in my office. It's tattered and battle-scarred after so many years. After all, it's been with me my entire career and informs everything I do.

This saying keeps me growing and learning. It focuses my thinking and it inspires me to be better today than I was yesterday.

So as you move forward in your own sales career, I invite you to also ―Never believe in Never!

And please share: what roadblocks are you facing that are simply challenges on your way to success?
