Are you connected to all your customers on LinkedIn? Why not? When I asked most sellers that questions, I often get a blank stare – like they never thought of it. But there are a bazillion reasons why you should be networking on LinkedIn.

  1. First of all, you’ll keep up to date on what’s going on with them. You’ll find out if they change jobs or get promoted. That’s invaluable enough.
  2. Plus, you’ll now be a second-level connection to everyone they’re connected to. I’m talking about other people in their company – as well as their colleagues at other firms. And, that’s a big deal if you learn how to leverage it. Research shows you’re 3x more likely to get a sales call returned if you’re calling a mutual acquaintance.
  3. But there are even more reasons. Any time you post an update on your profile, you’ll appear on their LinkedIn home page. And if you start doing that every day, you’ll gain mindshare with them.

And now I want you to even think broader. Connect with your colleagues, former classmates and others in your community. You’d be surprised at how quickly LinkedIn social networking can expand your connections.
